These impacts can wreck havoc on those investments that have interdependencies on other investments and so on. If today, impact from change is not visible to cause and effect analysis on planned resource capacity, your business is in trouble, big trouble. Consider how in the following comment. Suppose your one of your top ranked project investments slip in delivery date by one month. Thus the need for current resource support becomes extended for that one month. But those same resources were planned for other important project investments that were awaiting there availability now they are impacted.
We can see from the simple example above that the need for portfolio interdependency transparency is critical to making timely navigational business decisions when choices have to be made between projects and resources. Supporting this transparency can be gained by using enterprise project management tools that have the necessary project management science inside.
